The Mermaid Mask is a point-and-click detective mystery game developed and published by SFB Games, originally called The Mermaid's Tongue during development. It is the fourth game in the Detective Grimoire series, following the studio's critically acclaimed 2019 Tangle Tower, and sees Detective Grimoire and his partner Sally Spears return. The story begins in the deserted fishing town of Silkwirm-on-Sea, where Captain Seafoam of the Mortuga Submarine calls the pair in to investigate the murder of Captain Magnus Mortuga. He's dead, in a locked room, with a stone cauldron, ancient, no murder weapon, no explanation of how anyone got in or out. Some of the crew whisper of a curse released from the cauldron. Others suspect that Mortuga was something stranger than human to start with. Grimoire and Sally interview the wacky, fully-voiced crew of the sub and try to find out what really happened. The game was released on July 16, 2026, for PC (via Steam) and macOS, as well as PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, with an Xbox Series X release confirmed for later in the year. It's got an Overwhelmingly Positive user rating on Steam, and has been hailed by publications including ShackNews, Game Informer and EDGE Magazine as the best entry in the Detective Grimoire series yet.

The Mermaid Mask is a classic point-and-click exploration with full 3D clue examination system. Players guide Detective Grimoire and Sally through the rooms of the Mortuga Submarine, clicking on objects, characters and environmental details to interact. Instead of just zooming into a flat clue image, every piece of evidence is a fully realized 3D object players pick it up, rotate it in their hands and inspect it from every angle, sometimes shaking or opening it to reveal hidden inscriptions or mechanisms not visible at first glance. The story takes place through conversations with the submarine’s eccentric, fully-voiced crew. Dialogue options expose inconsistencies in each suspect’s story, directing players to their next clue or place to explore. The evidence is then used to solve environmental puzzles, unlocking new areas of the submarine and advancing the central locked-room mystery. There is no combat, no failure state and no time pressure the entire experience is paced around careful observation, connecting evidence and piecing together dialogue to figure out how Captain Mortuga could have been murdered in a sealed room with no visible way in or out. The game supports mouse, trackpad, touchscreen and controller input, with console players using controller triggers to rotate 3D clues.

Detective Grimoire and Sally arrive in the abandoned fishing town of Silkwirm-on-Sea to investigate the death of Captain Mortuga and plunge into the Mortuga Submarine. As you investigate the rooms of the submarine click on objects to examine them and gather clues. Pick up a clue and turn it over and look at it from all sides. Some clues can be shaken, opened or toggled to reveal hidden details. Talk to the entire voice cast of the submarine and be on the lookout for any inconsistencies in their stories as dialogue can often hint at the next clue or place to investigate. Use gathered evidence to solve environmental puzzles and unlock new areas, then bring crucial details back into conversations to challenge suspects’ stories. For newbies: Always look around a room very carefully before moving on, because the small details you find when inspecting in 3D tend to be important for later dialogues and puzzles.
