The Lumberjack's Routine 2.5.1 Story
The Lumberjack’s Routine starts with a deliberately fuzzy set-up. Yesterday is a little fuzzy, and today, you wake up on a little boat, near a quiet village, with a pounding headache, and more questions than answers. But the debt is real. And someone must pay. The town guard is not interested in explanations and you are left with an old axe and no better options than heading into the forest to start chopping trees. What begins as a desperate attempt to make some money, slowly turns into a simple daily routine. The story does not build up to high drama, but finds its cosy rhythm. There’s no big bad guy or massive twist in the story waiting to be revealed - the tension in the story is all in the personal stakes of working off a debt one tree at a time. The quest system (added in the 2.0 update) provides a structure and small narrative beats as the settlement, its people and the surrounding islands are slowly revealed as you play.
