Alchemist's Garden frames its incremental crafting loop around a simple but cozy premise: the player inherits or takes over a long-abandoned potion shop and must rebuild it into a successful business. There's no heavy scripted narrative driving the experience; instead, the story unfolds through the shop's gradual transformation, hidden end-game content revealed through continued play, and the growing relationship between the player and their steadily expanding magical storefront.

Players forage for magical ingredients across ten mystical locations, then experiment with those ingredients at a crucible to discover new recipes from a pool of more than 64 potions and items. The Grimoire lets players queue up continuous crafting, freeing them to explore, decorate, or manage the shop while production carries on in the background. Progression is shaped by a deep talent tree offering more than 70 unique effects, while the prestige system lets players carry permanent progress into new playthroughs. Version 1.16 specifically speeds up the foraging loop with a held-mouse-button gathering option, adds spacebar dialog advancement, and introduces decoration hover tooltips for clearer at-a-glance information while customizing the shop.
