BeatSkillz Stylust 1.0.4

Stylust is a drum effect plug-in that makes clean, modern drums sound like they were sampled off an old record. It’s for hip-hop, boom bap and lo-fi producers who want that crunchy break sound without chaining four or five plug-ins.

BeatSkillz Stylust 1.0.4 Overview

Stylust is made by BeatSkillz, a plug-in company based in Irvine, California. It loads as an AU, VST3 or AAX effect in your DAW. Classic drum breaks got their sound from a chain: tape, then vinyl, then a 12-bit sampler, pitched down and squashed. Stylust puts that whole chain into one plug-in with four modules: a sampler emulation, tape and vinyl, compression, and an enhancement section. An X/Y pad moves every module at once, and an Intensity fader decides how much of the effect you hear. You can stay on the front panel or open each module for detailed control.

Key Features

X/Y pad and Intensity fader: One drag moves the whole chain, from warm to gritty and from clean to wrecked. The Intensity fader scales everything from subtle to extreme. Real varispeed pitch-down: Drums can drop up to two octaves the way old samplers did, with grit and darkening, while each hit’s attack stays on the beat. This saves you bouncing and resampling. Sampler grit: Bit depth and sample rate reduction, plus an input filter and drive, give you the low-resolution crunch of old sampling hardware. Tape and vinyl: Wow, flutter, drift and dropouts, four drive types, seven noise beds (vinyl, tape hiss, cassette and more), and 20 convolution profiles. Compression and enhancement: A compressor with pump mode, parallel mix and a sidechain high-pass, followed by a 10-band EQ with air, bass and width controls to bring back what the chain took away. 184 presets in 12 banks: These range from a light tape tint for a master bus to fully destroyed loops.
