Imagiro Piano is a virtual piano lo-fi instrument plugin for macOS and Windows, built around character-driven recordings rather than a single idealised piano tone. The core recordings were made at the developer’s childhood home in England, giving the instrument what imagiro calls a unique “felted intimacy” of bedroom recordings and other unorthodox capture environments, rather than a pristine studio session. The plugin’s Character Sounds celebrate rather than erase beautiful imperfections, and each piano included has its own distinct personality. Creative Processing tools also allow the user to manipulate raw sound by looping and reversing recordings to create lush, frozen sustains, or by using ADSR envelope controls to turn something as simple as a celeste into a totally different texture, like an EDM pluck. The Make It Yours system allows users to buy custom sound packs that plug directly into the plugin, letting you gradually add more character sounds, rather than buying a whole new instrument. The base plugin offers a number of different sound sets, each with its own recording story: The Original, recorded with two Rode M5 microphones and a thick blanket placed between the strings for a deep, intimate sound perfect for cosy, lo-fi chords; The Mono Piano, recorded thru a single vintage tube microphone with a linen tablecloth dampening the strings for a more balanced, slightly brighter sound; The Angel, a playful, gentle celeste built from samples recovered from internet archives; and The Rainmachine, a piano re-tuned in software after detuning during a humid winter, giving it a subtle chorusing character and soft attack.
