Red Giant VFX Suite 1.5.2 Overview

Red Giant VFX Suite is a collection of visual effects plugins built for Adobe After Effects, with select tools also compatible with Adobe Premiere Pro. Developed by Red Giant — now part of Maxon Computer GmbH — the suite bundles compositing, tracking, keying, cleanup, and lighting tools into a single package aimed at filmmakers, motion designers, and VFX artists working inside a standard compositing pipeline. Version 1.5.2 is a point update within the VFX Suite 1.5 release line, which introduced the Lens Distortion Matcher tool alongside refinements to existing tools like Supercomp, King Pin Tracker, Optical Glow, and Shadow. What differentiates VFX Suite from a typical effects pack is its Supercomp engine, a dedicated compositing environment inside After Effects that applies lighting and atmospheric interactions across multiple layers at once, rather than one layer at a time — producing results closer to how light behaves in a real scene. On the tracking and cleanup side, King Pin Tracker and Spot Clone Tracker bring planar tracking and object/blemish removal directly into the After Effects timeline, cutting down on the need to switch between separate tracking applications. It's worth noting that Red Giant has since evolved into a continuously updated, Maxon-branded release line (now on version 2025.x), so 1.5.2 represents a legacy build; current Mac users are generally better served installing the latest version through an active Maxon subscription for full Apple Silicon optimization and ongoing support.

Key Features

Supercomp A standalone compositing environment inside After Effects that applies light and atmospheric filters across all layers in a scene at once, rather than to a single layer, producing more physically realistic composites. King Pin Tracker A fast, accurate planar tracking tool built directly into After Effects, used for corner-pinning signs, screens, or any four-point surface without leaving the host application. Spot Clone Tracker A tracking-assisted clone tool for removing small objects, blemishes, or unwanted elements from footage by sampling and cloning in pixels from surrounding areas. Optical Glow A GPU-accelerated glow effect with controls for vibrance, color, and falloff, designed for adding realistic light emission to logos, graphics, or practical light sources in a shot. Primatte Keyer An automatic chroma-keying tool for pulling clean green-screen or blue-screen keys, paired with cleanup controls for handling difficult footage. Lens Distortion Matcher Introduced in the 1.5 update, this tool semi-automatically matches or removes lens distortion between shots, useful when compositing elements captured with different lenses. Shadow and Reflection A pair of tools for generating perspective-accurate shadows and reflections beneath or behind a layer, speeding up composite realism without manual rotoscoping. Chromatic Displacement A distortion tool for creating prismatic, RGB-channel-split displacement effects commonly used in title sequences and stylized motion graphics. Knoll Light Factory A lens flare generator built by VFX veteran John Knoll, offering customizable, physically inspired flares for adding cinematic light artifacts to a shot.

How to Use Red Giant VFX Suite 1.5.2

Follow the on-screen prompts to install the plugin set into your Adobe After Effects plugin directories. Launch After Effects. Open a composition and locate the VFX Suite tools under the Effects & Presets panel, grouped under the Red Giant / VFX category. Drag a tool such as Supercomp or King Pin Tracker onto your layer to apply it and open its custom control panel. Adjust the tool's parameters (tracking points, glow falloff, keying tolerance, etc.) using the live preview to fine-tune the result. Combine multiple VFX Suite tools on the same layer or across layers to build a complete composite, such as tracking a sign, keying a background, and adding a matched shadow. Render or export your composition as usual once the effect stack is finalized.
