Zebra3 is a semi-modular software synthesizer developed by u-he (founded by Urs Heckmann), rebuilt entirely from the ground up as the successor to the long-running Zebra2. Rather than committing to a single synthesis method, Zebra3 combines wavetable, additive, FM, and physical modeling synthesis within one flexible engine, giving sound designers a genuinely broad palette to draw from without leaving the plugin. What sets Zebra3 apart from its predecessor and many other semi-modular synths is the depth of its modulation and routing architecture, organized around a Generator Rack, a Modulation Rack, and an FX Grid, all navigable through a modern interface. Full MPE Support with Custom Preferences MIDI Polyphonic Expression is fully supported, and recent updates added new MPE preferences along with optional smoothing for more refined expressive control. Macro-Assignable Controls Controls A through D can be used as macros, with settings saved directly into a project or preset and usable as MIDI offsets for live performance or automation. MSEG "Global" Trigger Option Multi-segment envelope generators (MSEGs) gained a new "Global" trigger option, expanding how their timing and behavior can be synchronized across a patch. Extendable FMO and Envelope Parameters FMO (frequency modulation oscillator) and envelope parameters can now be extended via the modulation matrix, giving deeper routing flexibility for complex patch design. Hypercalibrate Time Matrix Control Hypercalibrate Time can now be controlled through the modulation matrix, adding another modulatable parameter for evolving, dynamic sound design. "Stop All Notes" Keyboard Control A right-click keyboard control option adds a "Stop All Notes" function, giving a quick way to silence stuck or hanging notes during a session.
