Iron Glass is a five-band equalizer plugin developed by Remanence Audio, built specifically for mixing and mastering work that calls for a more musical, interactive response than a typical digital EQ can offer. Rather than processing its bands one after another the way most modern equalizers do, Iron Glass runs all five bands in parallel through a circuit-modeled inductor network — the same way classic passive hardware EQs behaved — so boosting and cutting near the same frequency shapes sound in ways a conventional sequential EQ simply can't replicate. What sets Iron Glass apart is that nothing in its design is a fixed response painted on afterward. Pushing the inductors harder shifts the center frequency slightly upward while loosening the Q, exactly as real passive hardware would behave, and the plugin isn't modeled after one specific piece of gear — each stage was tuned by ear instead. Beyond the EQ section, a modeled tube-and-transformer stage adds analog-style character, with the transformer ("iron") component specifically designed to "remember" how it just saturated and settle in the moments following a transient — the exact phenomenon that gave Remanence Audio its name.

Switchable Shelf or Peak Filter Types The four outer bands can be switched between shelf and peak filter types, while the center 1 kHz band remains fixed as a peak filter. Modeled Tube and Transformer Stage A "Glass" tube stage and "Iron" transformer stage are both solved as genuine circuit models rather than a fixed saturation effect applied at the end of the signal chain. Independent Color and Voicing Controls Color and voicing controls change the fundamental character of the tube and iron stages themselves, rather than simply changing how hard those stages are being driven.

How to Use Remanence Audio Iron Glass 1.1.6

Choose your band centers — using the default 100 Hz, 300 Hz, 1 kHz, 4 kHz, and 10 kHz positions, or switching to SWEEP mode to place them freely. Select a width setting for each active band, ranging from broad and gentle to tight and surgical. Apply your boosts or cuts, using the ±5 dB range for subtle work or pushing to ±15 dB for more aggressive correction. Switch the four outer bands between shelf and peak filter types as needed for your material. Adjust Color and voicing to shape the fundamental character of the tube and transformer stages. Enable and shape the inductor-modeled high-pass or low-pass filters, or set either to OFF to bypass them entirely. Set INPUT and OUTPUT drive levels, linking them if you want to push the circuit harder without a corresponding volume increase, and use A/B comparison to check your results.
