Serum 2.0.24 by Xfer Records is a wavetable synthesizer plugin combining refined Wavetable, Granular, and Spectral oscillators with an arpeggiator, clip sequencer, and flexible effect routing, built for deep, hybrid sound design in one instrument.

Xfer Records Serum 2.0.24 Mac Overview

Serum is a wavetable synthesiser plugin developed by Xfer Records. It combines wavetable editing with multisample, granular and spectral oscillators in a single instrument. Serum 2 is a huge leap forward from the original Serum. It has a whole new set of oscillators, flexible routing of effects, a built-in arpeggiator and clip sequencer to help users achieve complex sound and music ideas without the need to stack multiple synths together. The legendary Wavetable Oscillator that made the original Serum so famous has been refined even further with a Smooth Interpolation mode that allows near-infinite frame positions within a wavetable without having to morph between fixed frames. Serum 2 features a Granular Oscillator, a powerful tool for exploring and reviving sample material, even with its small interface, and a Spectral Oscillator, that allows you to resynthesise samples in real-time at the harmonic level, using transient detection processing akin to sophisticated timestretching algorithms to dramatically alter time and frequency content. Serum 2.0.24 is part of Serum’s ongoing update cycle, with recent point releases addressing crashes, MPE handling, filter changes and preset browser stability. Serum 2 for Mac (AU/VST3) is compatible with DAWs such as Logic Pro, Ableton Live, Studio One and Reaper. Xfer Records also provides a free demo version, Serum Player, which plays presets only.

Key Features

Wavetable Oscillator (Extended) Serum’s signature Wavetable Oscillator has been made even more flexible with the addition of the Smooth Interpolation mode that allows for near-infinite frame positions within a wavetable, removing the need to morph between discrete frames. Granular Oscillators The powerful Granular Oscillator packs a lot of sample manipulation power into a very small interface, letting you really explore granular synthesis techniques and breathe new life into old sample material. Oscillator Spectral Real-time resynthesis of the sample at the harmonic level along with transient detection processing similar to state of the art timestretching algorithms enables a radical reshaping of the time and frequency content of a sound. Flexible Effects Routing Route through a wide selection of built-in filters and effects including reverb, delay and distortion. Flexible routing options support complex, hybrid sound design. Arpeggiator & Clip Sequencer integrated Sequence and arpeggiate patterns directly in the plugin, providing rhythmic and melodic structure without the need to create patterns manually in a separate DAW track. FFT Based Waveform Generation Waveforms generation or processing. You can generate or process waveforms directly in the plugin with just a few clicks using formula functions. Processing Tools Waveform and sample content can be directly processed using fades, crossfades, normalisation and export options in the processing menu, simplifying sound design workflows. MPE with Advanced Midi Support MPE (MIDI Polyphonic Expression) is supported in Serum 2 with continual improvements on the handling of notes on each channel and the response to expression for more nuanced control of performance. Cross DAW Compatibility 2 Serum is compatible out of the box with major DAWs on Mac such as Logic Pro, Ableton Live, Studio One and Reaper, using the AU and VST3 plugin formats.

How to Use Xfer Records Serum 2.0.24 Mac

Step 1: Download Serum 2 Download Serum 2 from macospace.com. Step 2: Install and Load the Plug-in Install Serum 2 and load it up as an instrument track in your DAW (AU or VST3 depending on your host). Step 3: Browse the Presets Browse the included presets to get a feel for the types of sounds Serum 2 is capable of before building a patch from the ground up. Step 4: Choose The Oscillator Type Select from Wavetable, Granular or Spectral Oscillators to produce the sound you want, from evolving smooth pads to granular textures or harmonically resynthesised samples. Step 5: Designing Your Sound With Filters And Effects Create the final sound by passing the output of your oscillator through the built-in filters and effects of Serum 2. Reverb, delay, distortion and more. Step 6: Sequencing with Arpeggiator and Clip Sequencer Avoid having to manually construct each pattern in your DAW’s piano roll—use the built-in arpeggiator and clip sequencer to inject rhythmic or melodic movement. Step 7: Create or Edit Waveforms Create and edit custom waveforms within the plugin using formula functions and FFT-based waveform generation. Step 8: Preset and Sample Management As part of your sound design workflow, apply fades, crossfades, normalisation and other processing directly to sample content via the processing menu. Step 9: Saving and Organising Your Patches Save your finished patches and organise them with categories and tags in the preset browser for easy recall in future projects.
