Superlunar TS-440 1.1.0 Overview

TS-440 is a cassette tape machine emulation plugin for macOS and Windows in VST3, AU and AAX plugin formats. Rather than offering a single generic "cassette" effect, TS-440 models the full signal path of 20 individual cassette recorders from the warm JFET input stage of the original TEAC 144 to the punchier op-amp circuits found in the Tascam 424 series each with its own distinct preamp, EQ curve, and tonal fingerprint. Alongside the 20 modeled machines, TS-440 includes four tape formulations Type I Ferric, Type II Chrome, Type III Ferrichrome, and Type IV Metal each contributing a different style of compression and saturation. TS-440 can go from subtle analog warmth on a mix bus to totally destroyed, unstable lo-fi textures on an individual track, in combination with deep degradation controls for wow and flutter, drift, head wear, dropouts, and tape aging. Version 1.1.0 followed the plugin's March 2026 initial release and focused on latency: it fixed inaccurate latency reporting, resolved clicks that occurred at higher Stability settings, and reduced overall plugin latency, which now updates dynamically whenever the tape stage is bypassed.

Pitch and Playback Control Adjust playback pitch for detuned, warped effects reminiscent of manually manipulating a real cassette deck, tying naturally into the plugin's broader transport-emulation behavior. 33 Factory Presets TS-440 ships with 33 presets covering its full range, from clean studio-master tones to fully destroyed lo-fi effects, usable as-is or as starting points for custom sound design. Reduced, Dynamically Updating Latency Following the 1.1.0 update, plugin latency is reduced overall and now updates dynamically whenever the tape stage is bypassed, keeping timing accurate whether the tape emulation is active or not. How to Use Superlunar TS-440 1.1.0

Step 1: Download and Install TS-440 Download TS-440 from macospace.com . Step 2: Mount TS-440 on a Track or Bus Insert TS-440 in an effect position on a single track for a pronounced tape character, or on a mix bus for a subtler, glue-style, analog coloration. Step 3: Select a Cassette Machine Select one of the 20 modeled recorders based on the tonal character you're after — a warm JFET-style preamp for gentle coloration, or a punchier op-amp-style machine for more aggressive results. Step 4: Choose a tape formulation Type I Ferric, Type II Chrome, Type III Ferrichrome or Type IV Metal, they all add their own style of compression and saturation on top of the machine you choose. Step 5: Driving the Preamp Increase the input level to push the modeled preamp into harmonic saturation, or bypass the tape stage entirely if you just want TS-440's channel-strip coloration without tape degradation.
