Airtool 2.7.7 Overview

Airtool is a Wi-Fi packet capture utility for macOS. It resides in the system menu bar and lets you check the status and channel configuration of your Mac’s built-in Wi-Fi adapter, as well as perform frame captures on one or more channels. No special hardware is needed, it works thru the Mac's own Wi-Fi card and captures traffic that can be viewed in Wireshark, Omnipeek or WiFi Explorer. Airtool can also be used alongside Wireshark, so users can alter channel settings while capturing frames live from external tools such as Wireshark or tcpdump. This detail in the workflow is important when troubleshooting issues that cross channels. Captures are not just a local-only diagnostic tool, but can be uploaded automatically or manually to CloudShark or Mojo Packets for further cloud-based analysis and sharing. If you need more advanced diagnostics, Airtool supports multi-channel captures, with remote sensors (Linux-based devices such as the WLAN Pi or a Raspberry Pi 4 configured to run a capture script over SSH) so that Airtool can orchestrate captures across multiple channels at once, instead of being limited to the channel that the Mac itself is on at the time. How to Use Airtool 2.7.7

Step 1: Obtain Airtool Download Airtool for Mac for free from the macospace.com. Step 2: Download and Run Install the app and open it, letting it appear as a menu bar utility rather than a standard Dock app. Step 3: Check Wi-Fi State and Channel Before you start capturing, open Airtool from the menu bar to see the current state and channel configuration of your Mac’s Wi-Fi adapter. Step 4: Begin a Capture Start a single channel frame capture, or set up a multi-channel capture depending on what you are troubleshooting. Step 5: Run Wireshark Alongside Airtool If you already run a live capture in Wireshark or tcpdump, you can also use Airtool to change channel settings without interrupting the ongoing external capture.
