SoundSource is a menu bar-based audio control for macOS that provides quick access to your Mac's audio settings, robust per-application control and the ability to add effects to any audio played on the system. Instead of a global volume, there’s now a volume and output control for each individual running application. You can play a video call through headphones, for example, while music is still playing through the speakers, all from the same little menu bar icon. SoundSource 6, a major upgrade, includes over 30 new features, such as grouped output devices for combining multiple audio outputs, built-in AirPlay streaming, a new powerful Audio Devices window, and Quick Configs, which are saved full audio configurations for an entire Mac that can be switched between instantly with one click. There were eight accent colour tint options, a customisable menu bar icon, a user-resizable main window, and the ability to control individual apps and devices showing activity, all from the menu bar. SoundSource 6.1, released July 22, 2026, built on that foundation with dozens of refinements and more than two dozen bug fixes, adding two new ways to select Quick Configs — most notably an optional Quick Configs menu bar icon. 6.1.1 July 30, 2026 A focused bug-fix release, stomping out more issues (most rare, but all addressed), including: • Fixed a resource-loading problem that prevented SoundSource from launching on case-sensitive APFS volumes. • Fixed a problem with AirPlay devices not properly retaining previously set volumes. SoundSource 6 requires macOS 15 or later. Users on macOS 14 or older are redirected to the SoundSource 5 legacy release. How to Use SoundSource Download 6.1.1 for Mac

Step 1: Get SoundSource Get SoundSource from macospace.com Step 2: Install and run If necessary, double-click SoundSource.zip to decompress the app. Move the app to Applications. Start the app and allow it any permissions it requests. Step 3: Customise Per-App Audio From the menu bar, open SoundSource and control the volume or output device for any app that’s running. Step 4: Configure Grouped Output Devices You can group multiple audio outputs into a single destination to send audio simultaneously to multiple devices. Step 5: Set up AirPlay streaming Configure AirPlay streaming directly through SoundSource to send audio to compatible devices in your home or office. Step 6: Save Quick Config Then, when you have your audio setup the way you want it, save it as a Quick Config so you can instantly switch back to it later with a single click.
