ProFind 1.40 for Mac Free Download Overview

ProFind is a file search application for macOS. It provides fast and comprehensive searches of any disc you can access, under an elegant, spotlight-like interface. ProFind uses more than one search method: it uses metadata indexes (the same indexes that Spotlight uses) for speed, kernel-based searching (searchfs) for completeness when available, and optional disc caching that indexes file names, sizes and dates for even faster results, especially on network discs or drives that are not connected at the moment. The app has very extensive search criteria, including name, creation and modification date, file extension, tags, parent folder, kind, size, regex, wildcards and Spotlight metadata and natural-language date and size commands such as “modified this year” or “bigger than 1mb.” PDF, Word, RTF and InDesign document text content search, with optional OCR for image-based and scanned files. ProFind’s Photo Recognition feature can locate photos based on their actual visual content via on-device machine learning (requires macOS 12 or later). ProFind finds any disc type Mac, Windows, servers, network volumes including invisible folders and packages Results can trigger shell scripts, AppleScripts or macOS Shortcuts directly. The free companion iOS app, ProFind Remote, allows users to search their Mac from an iPhone or iPad over an encrypted local network connection. ProFind is available from the Mac App Store with in-app purchases for a 14-day trial and the full version.

Key Features

Search Engine Multi-method It combines metadata indexes (like Spotlight), kernel-based searching (searchfs) and optional disc caching to deliver fast and truly complete results, instead of relying on one search method alone. Broad search criteria You can search in the query itself by name, creation date, modification date, file extension, tags, parent folder, kind, size, regex and wildcards and natural-language commands such as "modified this year" or "bigger than 1mb". Content Search, OCR Deep Search text content in files such as PDF, Word, RTF and InDesign documents with optional OCR support for extracting and searching text in image-based or scanned files. Recognition of Images On-Device Recognise images by what they actually depict with on-device machine learning, so you don't have to remember a filename or manually tag each image first (requires macOS 12 or newer). Search for hidden folder and package Search inside invisible folders and macOS packages for content that otherwise is skipped by normal search tools altogether. Supports Any Disc Type Search Mac discs, Windows-formatted drives, network servers and other disc types from a unified search interface. Results in Scripting & Automation Run shell scripts, AppleScripts or macOS Shortcuts directly on found items. Turn search results from a dead end into a launching pad for automated workflows. Saved searches & full history Save searches for future reference and see a full search history making the re-execution of repeated or recurring searches much faster. Visual Query Builder Rather than typing natural-language or advanced query syntax, you can build search queries visually at any time by clicking the pencil button (requires macOS 14 or later).
