Screens 5 is a VNC-based remote desktop client, allowing you to access a Mac, Windows PC, Linux PC or Raspberry Pi remotely from anywhere – a home office, a coffee shop or the other side of the world. Built by Edovia, makers of the Screens product line since 2010, the app has grown into a full-featured remote access solution for Mac, iPhone, iPad and Apple Vision Pro. If you’re connecting from outside a local network, you use Screens Connect. This is now baked into the app on macOS 14 or later (as of Screens 5.8.8), so you no longer have to install a separate companion utility. Screens integrates nicely with Tailscale to provide you with secure, hassle-free access to your Linux and Raspberry Pi machines without having to worry about network configuration. It also provides support for SSH based connections including SSH key authentication, automated password entry for fast logins, and full support for Raspberry Pi 5 running Bookworm and WayVNC. Version 5.8, released January 12, added full control of the interactive toolbar on iPhone, iPad and Vision Pro, allowing users to customize the controls they want and their placement. This release line also included automatic data backups (which can be restored from App Settings at any time), a hide option for the Nearby badge on iPhone, an option to disable File Transfers when connecting to a Mac, and general performance and stability improvements. macOS 14.0 or later required.

How to Use Screens 5 5.8.12

Step 1: Select Screens 5 Screens 5 download from macospace.com Step 2: Configure the Remote Machine Enable Screen Sharing or Remote Management on the Mac to which you want to connect, or configure SSH/VNC access for Windows, Linux or Raspberry Pi. Step 3: Setup Connect Screens Screens Connect is built into macOS 14 and later starting with Screens 5.8.8. Follow the in-app instructions to setup your Mac for remote access over the Internet. Step 4: Connect Linux or Raspberry Pi to Tailscale For Linux PCs or Raspberry Pi devices, configure Tailscale integration for a secure, no-fuss connection without needing to configure networks manually. Step 5: Construct Your Bridge Add the remote machine to Screens by hostname, IP address or a custom connection URL. Configure authentication (password or SSH key) as needed. Step 6: Connect & Select display If it’s a multi-screen setup you can connect to the remote machine and select which display you wish to connect to. Or you can view all displays simultaneously. Step 7: Privacy curtain mode If you’re in a shared or public place, turn on Curtain Mode to conceal the contents of the remote Mac’s screen while you’re logged in. 8: Exchange Files and Clipboard Drag files between your iOS device and a connected Mac or share clipboard content – text, URLs, images – between local and remote machines. Step 9: Personalize your toolbar Personalize the interactive toolbar with your own buttons for a personalized workflow. On iPhone, iPad, or Vision Pro, tap Settings > Controls > Toolbars.
