iCollections 9.7.8 Overview

iCollections is a desktop organiser for Mac, developed by Naarak Studio. It was first released in 2016, and is now in its ninth major release. iCollections lets you create shaded, resizable "Collection" windows on your desktop that can hold related apps, files or folders instead of littering your desktop with icons. Version 9.7.8 is part of the actively maintained iCollections 9 release line, which has concentrated on native Apple Silicon performance, compatibility with the latest macOS releases, and refinements to the app's visual design language to align with current system aesthetics. More than icon grouping, iCollections adds functionality unavailable to most Mac users in Finder alone. Photo Frames turn part of your desktop into a slideshow, Web Panels pin favourite sites right to the desktop, and there’s a Drop Well for quickly catching downloads and dragged files. It runs as a lightweight menu bar utility, and autostarts with MacOS. iCollections is a paid utility, and has a free trial period. It can be purchased directly from Naarak Studio and from the Mac App Store.

Key Features

Customizable Collections Create as many "Collections" as you like shaded, resizable windows on your desktop used to group icons, files and folders. All Collections are free to rename, resize, recolour and reposition. Photo Frames and Slideshows Photo Frame Turn any Collection into a Photo Frame, displaying photos from any folder or photo album you choose, as a still frame or animated slideshow with an auto cycle. Immediate access to websites (Web Panels) Pin your favourite sites – YouTube, X, Facebook, and more – to the desktop as Web Panels, so you can access them quickly without a full browser window opening. Drop-well Desktop area for temporary files. Drop downloads, email attachments or dragged items into a Drop Well. As new items are dropped, old items automatically clear out to keep recent drops visible. Personalised icons You can replace any system icon (files, folders, applications, aliases, discs, URL links) with any image you like. There are no built-in limits to customisation. Disk Panel A dedicated panel, to quickly access all connected volumes and drives, without opening Finder. Folder View : Drag items from an actual folder directly into a Collection to keep your desktop organization in sync with your Finder folder structure. Retina & Multi-Display Support iCollections is fully Retina display ready and it works cleanly with multiple monitors keeping Collections sharp and in the right place on every screen. Apple Silicon Native Performance As a native Apple Silicon application, iCollections is built for M-series Macs and is optimised for new macOS releases and design languages as Apple ships them, with updates to follow.
