Ethernet Status: LAN Monitor is a menu bar network monitoring utility for macOS that displays the status of a Mac's wired Ethernet connection as well as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth PAN, iPhone/iPad USB tethering, FireWire and Thunderbolt network interfaces via a single neatly color coded icon (green, yellow or red) sitting in the menu bar at all times. Click on the icon and a dropdown appears with detailed connection info (ip address, mac address, current upload and download speed, data usage stats) that can be copied right from the menu. The app can monitor multiple adapters at the same time, and is aware of connected, active and inactive states based on macOS’ prioritization of network interfaces in System Settings. Version 6.0 adds better Ethernet detection accuracy, faster menu bar refresh timing, improved compatibility with USB-C and Thunderbolt adapters, and lower CPU usage while monitoring in the background. The app is a small download of about 3.5 MB, and will work on macOS 10.11 or later on both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs. It is a one-off purchase from the App Store and supports Family Sharing. There is also a separate free Lite edition with fewer advanced features.

How to Use Ethernet Status: LAN Monitor 6.0

Step 1: Download the Application Get LAN Monitor from macospace.com. Step 2: Open and Grant Permissions Run the app and let it run in menu bar. It is intended to run silently as a status icon, rather than opening a full application window. Step 3: Check the Menu Bar Icon Color A quick look at the color-coded icon lets you immediately know the status of your connection — green for when it’s good to go, and yellow or red for when there are problems. 4. Click the drop down to expand for more details Click the icon for detailed information including: IP address, MAC address, upload/download speed and data usage of your active network interface. Step 5: Monitor Multiple Adapters If you have more than one network adapter connected, the app will track each one rather than being limited to whichever interface macOS currently prioritizes.
