PopClip is a small menu bar app that pops up a bar of buttons whenever you select text on your Mac. Copy, search, open a link or fix a typo in one click. It suits writers, researchers and anyone who moves a lot of text between apps.

PopClip 2026.8.1 fix EDiSO Overview

PopClip is a text utility made by Nick Moore of Pilotmoon Software. It has been around since 2011. You highlight text in almost any app and a little bar appears above it, much like the copy/paste bubble on an iPhone. The bar is context-aware. Paste only shows up in an editable field, and Open Link only shows up when your selection contains a URL. Out of the box you get a handful of basic actions. You can add many more from the free extensions directory, such as translation, formatting or sending text to other apps.

Key Features

Built-in actions: Cut, Copy, Paste, Search, Open Link, Dictionary, Reveal in Finder and Spelling. Holding Shift while using Cut, Copy or Paste strips the formatting, which is handy for pasting clean text into emails. Choice of search engine: The Search action lets you pick from presets like Google, DuckDuckGo, Kagi or Ecosia, or enter a custom search URL. Hold Option to search for the exact phrase. Extensions library: You can install extra actions from the PopClip Extensions Directory, and they can update themselves automatically. Full control over the bar: You can rename, re-icon, delete, duplicate and group actions into folders. There’s no longer a limit on how many actions you install. iCloud Sync: Since version 2026.7, your extensions, layout and action settings sync across your Macs. API keys and sign-ins sync through iCloud Keychain. Keyboard shortcut: You can bring up PopClip with a shortcut instead of the mouse. As of 2026.8, a single function key like F1 works as that shortcut.
