NotchNook 1.6.2 turns your MacBook’s notch into a live center of universal media controls, calendar previews, Live Activities and a temporary Files Tray for drag-and-drop storage and AirDrop sharing, without the need to open a single additional app.

Download NotchNook 1.6.2 fix Overview

NotchNook is a macOS utility that turns the MacBook notch, or a thin pill-shaped handler with the same functions on notchless Macs and external displays, into an interactive strip for widgets, Live Activities, media controls, and a shelf for temporary files. The app is centred at the top of the screen and responds to hover, click and swipe gestures expanding into a larger “Nook” area on demand rather than permanently occupying screen space. Depending on the layout, the improved Nook can show a range of configurable widgets, such as universal media controls, calendar events, Shortcuts, notes, a webcam mirror, timers and to-do lists. Live Activities allows you to bring real-time information like now-playing audio, battery changes, Bluetooth connections and calendar transitions in the notch so you don’t have to open separate apps for updates. The Files Tray is a handy, real-life short-term drop zone for the notch: drag files to the bar to temporarily hold them, paste stuff from the clipboard, stack things or send stuff via AirDrop. NotchNook uses private macOS APIs to control media across the system, which means it's not available on the App Store, but you can grab it directly from lo.cafe (Setapp is another way to get NotchNook). This is a minor maintenance release, fixing the default gesture settings after the introduction of major features like Timer and To-do widgets in the previous 1.6.0-1.6.1 releases. Requires macOS 14.6 or higher, fully optimised for Apple Silicon, with hardware acceleration on Intel Macs where available.

Key Features

Notch Expansion Interactive Tap, swipe or hover to expand the notch into a bigger “Nook” area with widgets and controls, yet not permanently using up extra screen real estate when not in use. Universal Media Control Control music and other audio right from the notch, with dynamically updating album art and waveforms for a functional, visually engaging media experience. Calendar Quick Look You can also see your upcoming calendar events right on the notch without having to open a dedicated calendar app, so you’re always aware of what’s on your schedule. Live Activities Now-playing audio, battery status changes, Bluetooth connections, calendar transitions and other real-time surface updates now show up right in the notch as they happen, instead of forcing you to go to separate system indicators. Files in the Tray For example you can drag files to the notch and hold them for a while in a temporary storage shelf. You can paste from the clipboard, pile up several items or send content directly via Airdrop. Webcam Preview - Instantly preview your webcam feed directly from the notch, useful for quick appearance checks before video calls without opening a full camera app. Timer and To-Do Widget Introduced in previous updates in the 1.6.x release train, you can now track time-based tasks and manage a to-do list right from the notch. Multi-Monitor Support & Notchless Mac For Macs without a hardware notch, or for external displays, NotchNook draws a transparent or pill-shaped handler with the same functionality, with vendor-confirmed support across multiple monitors. Apple Silicon Optimisation The app is fully optimised for Apple Silicon, and makes use of hardware acceleration on Intel-based Macs where available, keeping resource usage to a minimum during everyday use.
