Moom is a window manager for Mac OS X by Many Tricks. It allows you to move, resize and arrange windows with mouse, keyboard or dragging to screen edges. It can save window layouts and restore them later. Moom 4, released in August 2024, brought a resizable settings window, a customizable pop-up palette with folders, drop zones, and a "Hover" mode for moving windows with modifier keys.

Moom is a window management app for Mac by Many Tricks, a small developer that’s been building Mac utilities for years. macOS only allows you to arrange windows in a very basic way, but Moom gives you much more control: you can resize a window to exactly the size you want, put it in a precise spot on the screen, or arrange multiple windows at once with a single action. Moom is especially helpful for those who tend to have many windows open at once — developers, writers, designers, and people working on a laptop with an external display. You select a layout from a small palette, snap windows to screen edges or use keyboard shortcuts, rather than pulling window edges by hand. Moom 4 was released in August 2024 and is available directly from Many Tricks as a one-time purchase. It’s no longer available on the Mac App Store, because it needs Accessibility access to control other apps windows. The older version is still available there, as “Moom Classic.”

How to Use Moom 4.6 for Mac – Window Manager by Many Tricks

1. Launch Moom. You’ll see its icon in the menu bar. 2. Hover the mouse over the green button in the top left corner of any window. The Moom palette is shown. 3. Click a size or position in the palette (e.g. left half or full screen) to resize the window. 4. Drag a window to the side or corner of the screen to snap it. 5. Hover - Hold down the modifier keys you configured in Moom’s preferences and move the mouse to move or resize the window under the pointer. 6. Save a layout Arrange your windows as you want them and save the current layout in Moom’s settings. You can restore it later with a click or keyboard shortcut. Tip: Go to Moom’s preferences to change the color scheme, add your own actions, and assign keyboard shortcuts for the layouts you use most.

1. Download Moom and open the file you downloaded. 2. Drag Moom to your Applications folder. 3. Launch Moom from Applications. 4. When macOS prompts you to do so, enable Moom in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility. Without this permission, Moom cannot move or resize windows. 5. Still no Moom? Quit Moom and then open it again, after giving it Accessibility access.
