Moom 4.5.1 Overview

Moom is a window management utility for macOS that lets you move, zoom and snap windows into precise positions, arrange them into reusable layouts and automatically adjust to different display setups. First released in 2011, Moom hit a major 4.0 milestone in 2024 — more than a dozen years after Moom 3 — reworking the app around modern macOS behavior while retaining its familiar core: hover the green zoom button on any window to open Moom's pop-up palette, then choose halves, quarters, full-screen, or a custom grid target. Besides basic tiling, Moom also provides keyboard-only operation, custom actions that can be chained together for repetitive workflows and saved layouts which can recall an entire workspace – browser on the left, editor in the centre, terminal on the right – and hide any apps that aren’t part of that layout. Snap zones can be configured to trigger Folder actions or Layout actions. That means you can get multiple results from one drop zone, if you want. This is a maintenance release that improves compatibility with Bartender's Top Shelf feature, fixes layout handling for windows that don't have a title attribute (like in apps like cmux), keeps window ordering steadier when restoring layouts on recent macOS, and prepares the app's visuals for the upcoming macOS 27. Moom is sold directly from Many Tricks, not the Mac App Store (an older version, Moom Classic, is still available there). Moom requires macOS 10.13 High Sierra or newer and is sold as a perpetual license (not a subscription) with at least one year of updates.

Green Zoom Button with Hover Color Palette When you hover over the green zoom button of a window, Moom replaces the default macOS tooltip with a pop-up palette of quick options to tile the window to the left or right, maximize it, or give it a custom grid position. Saved Layouts Save an entire workspace layout, multiple apps arranged exactly how you want them, and recall it in a flash, optionally hiding automatically any apps not included in that particular layout. Stage Manager’s Companion On macOS 13 and newer, a general setting lets Moom account for Stage Manager's sidebar, subtracting that space from a display's usable area the same way it already does for the menu bar and Dock. Multi Display Auto Adjust Moom lets you resize windows and reposition them to match various monitor setups when you plug in or unplug a monitor. Menu Bar or Dock Usage Run Moom as a traditional Dock-based app, or as a menu bar utility, depending on your personal workflow preference.

How to Use Moom 4.5.1

Step 1: Get Moom Download Moom from macospace.com. Step 2: Install and Run Drag Moom to the Applications folder, open it and choose whether you want it to live in the Dock or in the menu bar. Step 3: Test the Hover Palette Hover your cursor over any window's green zoom button to see Moom's palette appear, and try tiling a window to a half, quarter, or full-screen position. Step 4: Configure Custom Snap Zones Create snap zones for areas of the screen to drag a window to to do something. Assign Folder or Layout actions where it makes sense. 5. Save a layout Arrange a handful of apps just as you like, then save that arrangement as a layout you can restore instantly later, optionally hiding unrelated apps when it's applied. Step 6: Create Chained Custom Actions For workflows you perform frequently, link several actions into a single command and compress repetitive manual steps into a single trigger. Step 7: Keyboard Shortcuts Configure keyboard shortcuts if you prefer keyboard-only control, including single-key-plus-arrow combinations for quick window positioning. Step 8: Enable Stage Manager Support (If Applicable) If you use Stage Manager, enable the Stage Manager setting in macOS 13 or later to make sure Moom correctly accounts for its Sidebar space. Step 9: Multiple Displays And if you move external monitors in and out of the mix, be sure that Moom’s layouts and snap zones are working as you expect on your display setup.
