VueScan Pro 9.8.56 by Hamrick Software is a Mac scanner control program. It keeps your old scanners working on current Mac OS, with AI-powered Touch Up for dust and scratch removal, film restoration tools, and high-bit-depth RAW scanning support.

VueScan Pro 9.8.56 Overview

VueScan is scanner software that works with 1200+ scanners and allows you to control your scanner and produce professional quality images that are easy to scan photos, scan film and scan documents. VueScan is cross-platform and runs on Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. VueScan does not rely on drivers from the manufacturer but instead uses its own independent way of communicating directly with the scanner hardware. That is exactly why VueScan can support scanners that no longer have drivers available from the manufacturer for current operating systems. With more than 8,000 scanners and drivers built-in support, and support of more than 200 digital camera models, VueScan works both as a rescue tool for ageing hardware, and as a powerful professional-grade scanning application in its own right. The software provides state-of-the-art photo and film tools that go beyond document capture, such as infrared dust removal, Restore Fading, multi-exposure scanning, IT8 colour calibration, and high-bit-depth (48-bit) and RAW scan options for archival-quality results. Version 9.8.56, released June 28, 2026 adds an interactive "File > Colourize" dialogue, support for Shift-Arrow to nudge a crop box by 10 pixels, Control-Up/Down Arrow to nudge skew by 0.05 degrees and support for 7 additional Brother scanner models along with various bug fixes. The Universal Binary build runs natively on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs and requires macOS 10.15 through 12.0 depending upon the build. The software can be downloaded and used for free in a fully functional demo mode identical to Professional mode except that scans will have a watermark until a license is purchased.

Key Features

Supports more than 8,000 scanners and devices Built-in reverse-engineered drivers exist for thousands of legacy and current scanners and for more than 200 digital camera models. One application can support almost any capture device. Saves Unsupported Old Hardware VueScan’s independent driver approach means that older scanners will continue to work with current operating systems, even years after manufacturers have stopped releasing updated drivers for them. Touch Up - powered by AI Touch Up employs on-device AI models to remove dust, scratches and other flaws from scans, delivering significantly better results than traditional automated cleanup tools. Tools for Professional Film and Photo Restoration Infrared dust removal, Restore Fading for color-shifted film, multi-exposure scanning for extended dynamic range, and IT8 color calibration support archival-grade scanning results. High Bit Depth & RAW Scan Scan at high bit depth (48-bit) or capture RAW scan data, preserving maximum detail and color information for demanding photo and archival work. Advanced Settings and Guide Me Choose between Guide Me mode, which walks users step by step through the scanning process, and Advanced mode, which unlocks full manual control over every scanning parameter. Multi-Page PDF & OCR Recognize text using built-in OCR and output scanned documents, photos, and film in PDF, JPEG, or TIFF formats, including multi-page PDFs from both flatbed scanners and automatic document feeders. Interactive Crop, Skew, and Colorize Tools Fine-tune crop boxes with pixel level nudging (Shift-Arrow), adjust skew in small increments (Control-Up/Down Arrow) and use the interactive Colourize dialogue introduced in version 9.8.56. Continued support and frequent updates VueScan is updated every few weeks. Standard Edition users receive free upgrades for a year and Professional Edition users get free upgrades for life.
