Camtasia is a screen recording and video editing application designed specifically for creating tutorials, training content, and presentations. It captures on-screen activity, Keynote slides, camera video, microphone and system audio, each as separate layers on the timeline — screen, webcam, cursor and narration don’t get flattened into a single track, so editors can trim, rebalance or replace any of the layers after the fact without having to re-record anything. The metadata for the cursor is stored with the capture itself, so you can smooth, resize or replace cursor paths after the fact, rather than being stuck with whatever happened to occur during the original take. Screentelligence offers SmartFocus to automate zoom and pan behaviour on Rev-based recordings. Integrations with Camtasia Audiate provide text-based editing, where deleting a word in a transcript will automatically cut the matching audio, along with AI noise removal, translation, and script assistance on supported plans. Version 2026.2.0, released August 11, 2026, contains many significant new features: Camtasia Snagit 2026 recordings.3.0 or newer can now be sent directly to Camtasia Editor to automatically generate a ready-to-share training video. A new WebM export option delivers smaller file sizes with transparency support. Curved remix arrow callouts were added. A fresh collection of customisable animations arrived in Camtasia Assets, with improved Lottie file support. Users can also select Standard updates (faster access to new features) or Delayed updates (possibly more stable). Camtasia Editor is a free download with full editing features, but exported videos will be watermarked unless you upgrade to an Essentials, Create, Pro or Business license.
