Unusual Findings is a point-and-click adventure set in the 80s. When three friends, Vinny, Nick and Tony try to intercept a scrambled adult cable channel with a new signal descrambler, they discover a terrifying alien conspiracy. A stupid teen prank turns into a town-wide mystery about a crash-landed alien who has a taste for some of the townsfolk. The game is structured as an old-school side-view adventure with heavy storytelling through dialogue, hidden object puzzles and a large amount of choice-driven branching. Choices throughout the story influence the outcome of subsequent scenes, and culminate in one of three different endings. Version 1.0.32 is part of the ongoing post-launch support for the game that has seen the free “Vinny’s Diary” content update – adding new gameplay content, in-game hint system accessible from the inventory, improved controls based on community feedback, and general quality-of-life refinements. Unusual Findings is a throwback to the 80s, with VHS rental stores, arcade cabinets, comic shops, and synth-based music all featuring heavily. It also has a mystery-comedy tone, with crude humour being prevalent throughout the dialogue and story beats. Language and style of humour are not suitable for young audiences.

Unusual Findings is a classic point-and-click adventure in which the players assume the roles of three teenage friends, Vinny, Nick and Tony, as they explore their 1980s neighbourhood. Gameplay is side-viewed, where you click on objects to examine, pick up and combine to solve puzzles. The story is told through conversations with other characters and at important scenes you will be presented with choices to make – these choices will not only affect the current scene but will also influence which of the three endings you get. There are also hidden object puzzles to solve, which require the player to examine their environment closely in order to progress. If you get stuck on a puzzle, the inventory includes Vinny’s Diary which gives you hints gradually, first subtly, but more straight forward if needed. There’s no multiplayer, no competitive modes; it’s all single-player and all story, characters and puzzles. But it’s all set against a nostalgic 80s backdrop (VHS stores, arcades, comic shops) and the dialogue is laced throughout with irreverent, crude humour.

At key choice points, choose carefully, for your choices will determine which of the three endings you will reach.
