iA Writer is made by Information Architects AG, a Swiss design company. It has been one of the best-known writing apps on Apple platforms for over a decade. It has won Best of App Store four times and is an App Store Editors’ Choice. You write in plain text, using simple Markdown symbols for headings, bold and links, then preview it as a formatted document. Your files stay as ordinary text files, so they open anywhere. iA Writer 8 added a refreshed Liquid Glass look for macOS 26 and later. It also added a Document Outline in Quick Search, a Command Palette for formatting and export, a compact Library layout, and author colors in menus. Version 8.0.9 is a small bug-fix update for these features. Since then, 8.1 has added a faster Markdown engine, spreadsheet-style table editing and Markdown alerts.

Write in Markdown, then preview it as a formatted page, with images, tables and other files embedded. Organize your files. A Library with folders, favorites, search and the Document Outline for jumping between headings. Flexible export. Custom templates, and export to Word (.docx), PDF, HTML, WordPress or Medium.

How to Use iA Writer 8.0.9 [MAS]

Open the Mac App Store listing and click the price to buy. Launch iA Writer from Applications. Choose where to keep your files, such as iCloud Drive or a local folder, in the Library. Start typing. Turn on Focus Mode from the View menu when you need to concentrate.
