Bookends is a commercial reference management application for macOS. It is designed to help students, academics and professionals search, collect, organise, annotate, sync and cite references, PDFs and related materials for academic, research and professional writing. It’s for anyone who regularly produces work that needs formal citations and bibliographies, from student essays to published research papers. References and associated metadata are pulled directly from the big academic databases and sites, including PubMed, PubMed Central, Google Scholar, JSTOR, Google Books, Web of Science, arXiv, the Library of Congress, and hundreds of other institutions, with no manual input. The app can import references from EndNote, Papers, Sente, Zotero and Mendeley, integrate live links with apps such as Tinderbox, DEVONthink and Scrivener and is fully AppleScript-able for automation.
