eBookBinder is a lightweight utility for creating ePubs on the Mac. It is designed to assemble existing text documents into a properly formatted eBook, without requiring the user to know anything about HTML or ePub packaging. The workflow is simple: you input the book's title, author, cover image, and other metadata. You add text files as chapters (each file becomes one chapter, rearranged by drag-and-drop). Then you click "Bind Book" to compile everything into a finished ePub. The app supports a very wide variety of source formats — plain text, Word (.doc), Open Document (.odt), Rich Text Format (.rtf/.rtfd), HTML, Textbundle and Textpack files — as well as markup language support for Markdown, MultiMarkdown, Textile, Wikitext, BBCode, Smark, and the newer ApexMarkdown engine, which adds support for Quarto and Pandoc grid-table options. Documents formatted using markup are automatically converted on import, and there is an optional splice function that will automatically split a large document into separate chapters based on its headings, which become chapter boundaries. A CSS template and an HTML-Head template allow further customisation of an eBook's final appearance. A Reduce feature strips all but a selected passage -- genuinely useful for cleaning up a web article before turning it into a chapter. Advanced users can inject custom HTML heads and CSS stylesheets, import existing DRM-free ePub projects for further editing, and export projects to share with collaborators. The project manager in eBookBinder automatically saves book metadata and supports a large variety of international character sets. Step 1. Download eBookBinder Download eBookBinder from macospace.com. Step 2: Fill in Book Details Create a new book project with title, author, cover image, publisher website and other useful metadata. Step 3: Create Chapters You can add your existing text files—plain text, Word, ODT, RTF, HTML, Textbundle or Textpack—as chapters, each file automatically becoming a chapter. Step 4: Arrange Your Chapters Drag and drop chapters into the order you want to read them. Give each chapter a clear name. Step 5. Apply Markup Conversion (Optional) If your source files are in Markdown, MultiMarkdown, Textile or another supported markup language, eBookBinder can automatically convert them during import. 6. Enable Splice for Large Documents If you want to split a large markup document into separate chapters automatically based on headings, turn on the splice feature in Preferences. 7. Make It Look How You Want Use the CSS and HTML-Head templates to customise the look and feel of your eBook beyond the default appearance. Step 8: Binding Your Book Click on “Bind Book” to compile everything into a finished ePub file, ready to read in Apple Books or most other eBook readers. Step 9. Export to Mobi (optional) If you want a Kindle-ready file, set kindlegen in eBookBinder's Mobipocket preferences to generate a .mobi export along with your ePub.
