Zenteek 1.7.1 Overview

Zenteek is a premium, local-first audiophile music player for macOS, built for collectors and listeners with large local libraries of FLAC, ALAC, DSD, and other high-resolution formats. Made in Germany, Zenteek requires macOS 14.6 or later, runs as a universal binary on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs, and requires System Integrity Protection (SIP) to remain enabled. Version 1.7.1 (build 200), released August 15, 2026, focuses on library and playlist refinements, artist profile customization, playback and visual polish, CD import options, and interface improvements, following the major 1.7.0 release that migrated content and metadata lookups to a new dedicated Content API server. What sets Zenteek apart from typical streaming-first music apps is its explicit "library-first" philosophy: rather than replacing a user's existing file organization, it treats a music library as an archive, keeping folder structure, metadata, and release integrity intact rather than importing everything into a closed database. It supports playback through FLAC, ALAC, AAC, MP3, OGG, OPUS, WAV, AIFF, DSF, DFF, and SACD ISO files, with native DSD decoding, DST decompression, and PCM resolution up to 768 kHz, all delivered through CoreAudio in Shared or Exclusive Hog Mode with automatic format matching. Beyond playback, Zenteek includes a modular DSP rack with Audio Unit support, a built-in track analysis framework (BPM, key, loudness, dynamics, energy), Mixtape tools for creating authentic 60- and 90-minute tape-format sequences, and integrations with Plex, Jellyfin, Subsonic, Navidrome, and DLNA sources — all sold as a one-time lifetime license with no subscription and no telemetry.

Key Features

Bit-Perfect, Format-Aware Playback Delivers audio through CoreAudio with Shared or Exclusive Hog Mode and automatic format matching, supporting PCM through 768 kHz and DSD64–DSD256 depending on hardware, with a transparent signal path from source to device. Native DSD & SACD Support Includes native DSD decoding, DST decompression for SACD ISO files, and direct DSD-over-PCM (DoP) playback, with support for DSF, DFF, and DST-compressed audio formats. Library & Playlist Enhancements (New in 1.7.1) Adds optional Filename and Filepath columns to track tables with sorting and filtering, a toggle to hide the playlist position column, and enhanced playlist headers showing total duration, tempo range, and top genres. Customizable Artist Profiles (New in 1.7.1) Adds per-section visibility controls for artist profiles, letting users individually hide or show artist images, biography, links, related artists, videos, concerts, and track listings. Modular DSP Rack Provides a visual, reorderable DSP chain builder supporting third-party Audio Units, with modules including Precision EQ with Musical and Vintage modes, Tape Saturation, PreAmp modeling, Transient Shaping, and a psychoacoustic Room simulator. Built-In Track Analysis Framework Analyzes loudness (LUFS), tempo (BPM), musical key with confidence scoring, dynamics, and energy for local tracks, with batch automation and configurable CPU core usage. Mixtape Creation Tools Recreates the deliberate pacing of physical mixtapes with authentic 60- and 90-minute tape formats, sequencing tracks across Side A and Side B in a dedicated Tape Playback Mode.

How to Use Zenteek 1.7.1

Launch Zenteek and point it at your local music folders, or connect a Plex, Jellyfin, Subsonic, or Navidrome source. Let the library indexer scan your files, enriching metadata, artwork, and credits automatically. Use Exclusive Hog Mode in Output Tools for genuinely bit-perfect playback on a connected DAC. Build a custom DSP chain in the Enhancements panel, adding EQ, saturation, or Audio Unit plugins as desired. Run the track analysis framework to add BPM, key, loudness, and energy data to your library, either manually or automatically. Create a Mixtape using the dedicated Tape Playback Mode to sequence a proper Side A/B listening session. Set up MCP integration via the Help menu if you want to query your library or generate playlists using an AI assistant like Claude Desktop.
